Koa is a hardwood native to Hawaii and is a highly sought-after species for its beauty and complex grain pattern. The Hawaiian government regulates koa harvesting; only fallen trees may be used, and distributors have an annual Koa limit they cannot exceed. It has a Janka hardness of 1,170 and is a medium-weight wood.
This piece came from a slab that was responsibly sourced, meticulously cared for, and preserved by our friends at Kamuela Hardwoods. It has the classic grain markings of Koa and a stunning figure of natural rings around the handle. The price reflects the wood's cost and the degree of difficulty in obtaining it. It has been finished with shellac & polyurethane.
